The position of the Internal Auditor is vacant in Accra College of Education and the Council Search Committee is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy.

Accra College of Education is a  public Tertiary Teacher Education Institution, located in East Legon, Greater Accra Region, close to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Ghana.

COLLEGE INTERNAL AUDITOR

The Position/Job Description

In general, the Internal Auditor will provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the College’s operations. He/She will help the College accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve risk management, control, and governance processes.

Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities and duties of the Internal Auditor include:

  • determining the reliability and adequacy of accounting, financial, and operational controls in the College;
  • evaluate the procedures of the College to determine whether results are consistent with stated objectives and goals;
  • monitoring compliance with established policies, plans, and procedures;
  • appraising the quality of performance of those carrying out assigned responsibilities;
  • assessing the extent to which assets are accounted for and safeguarded against losses;
  • ensuring that reliable records form the basis for the preparation of appropriate financial and other data provided for decision-making;
  • drawing the Principal’s attention to deficiencies in the system, instances of duplicated functions, with other inefficiencies with recommendations for remedies where necessary;
  • carrying out special reviews of accounting and internal control systems with the view to minimizing weaknesses.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must hold:

  • A good first degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable qualifications;
  • A master’s degree in the relevant area;
  • A qualified Accountant  who must be a member of a recognized Accountancy Professional Association as well as a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors;
  • He/She must have served as a Deputy Internal Auditor in a College of Education or comparable grade in a similar institution/organization for at least four (4) years.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of Professional Accounting and Auditing Standards, including standards for the Professional Practice of the Institute of  Internal Auditing(IIA).
  • Abilitytoprepare and submit Risk-based Annual Internal Audit Work Plan.
  • Demonstrate competence in the preparation of the Internal Audit Strategy.
  • Exhibit the ability to prepare Internal Audit Charter.
  • Competence to perform internal audit from beginning to finish, in accordance with the applicable Laws and Regulations as well as Accounting and Auditing Standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the audit activity, policies and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by Auditees and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise and submit professional Quarterly Internal Audit Report.
  • Ability to prepare Annual Internal Audit report to the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to work with persons from various levels and with varied backgrounds in the College.
  • The ability to handle sensitive or delicate situations confidentially and in a professional manner.
  • In-depth knowledge of Education sector regarding best practices, policies, current regulations and technology.
  • Demonstrate high level of efficiency, accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.
