The Mathematics and ICT Department at Accra College of Education (AcCE) organized a workshop on March 13, 2023, to encourage female students to take an interest in mathematics and motivate those interested in pursuing higher education in this field.

The workshop was held at AcCE’s ICT lab and was attended by Mr. Benjamin Tettey (Head of Department for the Mathematics and ICT Department), Dr. Dora Animwaa Mireku (Mathematics Tutor), Mr. Jackson (Mathematics Tutor), Mrs. Sandra Boamah (Mathematics Tutor), Mrs. Rosina Zuig (ICT Tutor) and student-teachers pursuing mathematics.

Speaking at this remarkable workshop was Dr. Comfort Mintah, a civil engineering lecturer at Ghana’s prestigious university, University of Ghana, Legon. She used her personal experiences to inspire women to pursue higher education in mathematics.

Dr. Mintah shared how she received an African scholarship after completing her first-degree program at the University of Ghana – Legon, which enabled her to continue her education in South Africa. She also provided insights on obtaining scholarships, both within and outside the country, for students interested in studying mathematics.

Additionally, she taught student-teachers how to solve mathematical problems and present mathematical lessons effectively to cater to the diverse needs of learners in their future classrooms.
